Come October, the world’s imagination will soon be captivated by the sun-drenched Northern Territory — the same way it’s been captivated by rural Montana a la Yellowstone — thanks to this new Netflix action-drama series.
Simply dubbed Territory (previously: Desert King), the forthcoming outback epic involves enough money on the table to kill for, a “fierce” succession war, as well as a family at odds with itself. All key ingredients to making a highly-bingeable program, as we’ve learned these past few years.

As per the official Netflix description: “When Marianne Station is left without a clear successor, generational clashes threaten to tear the Lawson family apart. Sensing this once-great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions — rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders, and billionaire miners — move in for the kill. With billions of dollars at stake, everyone wants a piece of the pie.”
It’s large-scale, high-stakes, and best of all, All-Australian.
Principal photography was accomplished across remote locations of the Northern Territory and South Australia, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park with special permission from the Traditional Owners; the Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch equivalent for this hotly-anticipated affair was the real-life Tipperary Station.
Netflix’s Territory stars Anna Torv (Mindhunter, The Last of Us) as Emily Lawson; Michael Dorman (For All Mankind, Patriot) as Graham Lawson; Robert Taylor (Longmire, The Newsreader) as Colin Lawson; and Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla, The Dry) as Marshall Lawson.
Sara Wiseman, Dan Wyllie, Clarence Ryan, Jay Ryan, Philippa Northeast, Joe Klocek, Kylah Day, Sam Delich, Hamilton Morris, Tuuli Narkle, Tyler Spencer, and Jake Ryan also feature in this homegrown cast of heavy-hitters.

The series has been created by Timothy Lee (Mystery Road) and Ben Davies (Bondi Rescue, The First Inventors, Outback Ringer); the latter of whom also executive produced alongside Rob Gibson (The Twelve, Colin from Accounts), and Ian Collie (Jack Irish, Scrublands).
Territory was written by Lee in collaboration with Kodie Bedford, Steven McGregor, and Michaeley O’Brien; while Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) served as director.
As for the matter of an official release date, Netflix’s Territory is scheduled to stream globally from October 24th, 2024 — keep an eye out here for the first trailer (and enjoy the first-look images in the meantime).
