  • Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its big-budget Australian outback drama Territory.
  • The forthcoming series has universally drawn favourable comparisons to Yellowstone.
  • Territory release date: October 24th, 2024.

In the same week that Amazon Prime Video’s The Office remake embarrassed the entire nation, Australia has reclaimed a cultural victory thanks to an early preview of Netflix’s Territory.

Hailed as an outback equivalent to the hit Yellowstone franchise, it depicts a tense succession battle for Marianne Station (the world’s largest cattle station), which threatens to tear the “once-great” Lawson family dynasty apart.

Sensing blood in the proverbial water, powerful factions with a vested interest in the coveted property — ranging from rival cattle barons and desert gangsters, to Indigenous elders and billionaire miners — move in for the kill.

“With billions of dollars at stake, everyone wants a piece of the pie.”

Sara Wiseman, Dan Wyllie, Clarence Ryan, Jay Ryan, Philippa Northeast, Joe Klocek, Kylah Day, Sam Delich, Hamilton Morris, Tuuli Narkle, Tyler Spencer, and Jake Ryan also feature in this all-star (and All-Australian) cast.

The series has been created by Timothy Lee (Mystery Road) and Ben Davies (Bondi RescueThe First InventorsOutback Ringer); the latter of whom also executive produced alongside Rob Gibson (The Twelve, Colin from Accounts), and Ian Collie (Jack Irish, Scrublands).

Principal photography was accomplished across remote locations of the Northern Territory and South Australia, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park with special permission from the Traditional Owners; the Yellowstone/Dutton Ranch equivalent for this hotly-anticipated affair was the real-life Tipperary Station.

Territory was written by Lee in collaboration with Kodie Bedford, Steven McGregor, and Michael O’Brien; while Greg McLean (Wolf Creek) served as director.

As for a release date, you’ll be able to stream this banger of a homegrown series via Netflix on October 24th, 2024 — check out the trailer above.
