What do you get when you combine a veteran of syndicated television like Alexi Hawley (creator of Castle, The Rookie) and the direction of Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith, Edge of Tomorrow), with a leading man like Netflix’s golden boy Noah Centineo? What looks to be yet another highly bingeable spy series in The Recruit — not to be confused with the underrated 2003 thriller starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell.

Taking a page out of Tom Clancy’s reluctant spook playbook a la Jack Ryan, The Recruit follows Owen Hendricks – a brilliant young lawyer who lands a gig at the CIA. Owen’s life is turned upside down during his first assignment involving a former asset named Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), who threatens to expose her connection to the agency and all its transgressions unless she’s completely exonerated for her crimes.

Ever the eager beaver, Owen throws himself into the deep end only to become entangled in convoluted international politics involving the CIA, globetrotting antics that we’ve all come to expect from the espionage genre, plenty of stray bullets which they certainly don’t teach you how to deal with in law school (at least not in the heat of the moment), and cans of White Claw. Because how else would we know he’s a Gen-Z protagonist?

Noah Centineo and Laura Haddock are joined by Aarti Mann as Violet, Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence, Colton Dunn as Lester, Fivel Stewart as Hannah, Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland, and Kristian Bruun as Janus Ferber. Recurring names include Byron Mann as Xander, Angel Parker as Dawn, Linus Roache as Senator Smoot, and Kaylah Zander as Amelia.

Centineo and Hawley have executive produced alongside Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol, with Doug Liman, Gene Klein, as well as David Bartis for Hypnotic, plus eOne.
