Regardless of whether anyone in the general public explicitly requested a sequel, Tiger King 2 is arriving to Netflix later this year all the same. Because the only thing better than flogging a dead horse is flogging a dead jungle cat.
The follow-up to 2020’s hit documentary was confirmed overnight, along with the streaming platform’s upcoming true crime slate scheduled for early 2022:
- The Puppet Master: Hunting The Ultimate Conman – investigating one of the world’s most notorious conmen who was convicted back in 2005
- The Tinder Swindler – centred on a man who pretended to be a billionaire on Tinder
- Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King – which tracks a group of investors as they explore into the mysterious death of cryptocurrency mastermind Gerry Cotten
- Bad Vegan – profiling restaurant owner Sarma Melngailis, who was conned out of millions by a backer.

While it’s unclear where Tiger King 2 will pick up in the timeline of high-stakes buffoonery and criminal shenanigans, the footage provided so far also confirms the return of Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe, and of course, Joe Exotic (real name: Joseph Maldonado-Passage) – the latter of whom has dialled in from a correctional facility.
Maldonado-Passage is currently serving the remainder of his 22-year prison sentence for plotting to murder Baskin via contract killer (among other things). The mullet-wearing eccentric famously believed he’d receive a presidential pardon from Donald Trump before he vacated office. Yet here we are.
Original co-directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin have also signed on to helm this one, as well as to executive produce with Chris Smith and Fisher Stevens.
“Whether you want to dive into the psyche of a con artist, empathise with the victims of a scam, or piece together the puzzle of an investigation, these wild stories are often full of surprising twists and unusual perspectives,” says Adam Del Deo and Lisa Nishimura, Netflix Documentary VPs.
Tiger King 2 / Tiger King season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix sometime in late 2021.
