The trailer for Prehistoric Planet season 2 has arrived. Sir David Attenborough’s deeply insightful and technically brilliant docuseries about dinosaurs premiered with five GCI-heavy episodes last year exclusively on Apple TV+. Clearly, the streaming service was confident enough in its success to bring the concept back for another run, presenting another five instalments with the faultless blend of Attenborough’s deeply comforting narration, paleontology learnings and state-of-the-art technology and, importantly, a soundtrack by none other than orchestral king Hans Zimmer.
Prehistoric Planet season 2 was confirmed earlier this year by Apple TV+ and now the streaming platform has dropped the official trailer, featuring photo-realistic recreations of these ancient creatures as well as Attenborough’s lofty promise of “more adventure, more danger and more dinosaurs.”
The show also serves as a profound connection between David and his brother Richard, who famously starred in Jurassic Park and during his time was most noted as the broadcaster, biologist and natural historian that most helped the modern world understand and appreciate the diverse world of dinosaurs.
Much like the first season, the next batch of episodes of Prehistoric Planet will air consecutively over five nights from Tuesday, May 22, guiding viewers through many different habitats with species of dinosaurs that are both well-known and some that have never really been fleshed out on the screen before, all bought to life with cutting-edge visuals.
With Apple TV+ originals few and far between, especially when compared with some of the other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, it’s looking like Attenborough’s Prehistoric Planet will continue to be a major lure for the platform. After all, this is the first major documentary about dinosaurs that the BBC has produced since 2011’s award-winning Planet Dinosaur.
Marvel heavy hitter Jon Favreau once again serves as Executive Producer of the project.
