For the second time in its three-season run, HBO’s Succession has taken home a golden statuette for Outstanding Drama Series, joining a revered collective of Primetime Emmy winners in 2022.

Succession led the pack at the long-running annual award ceremony’s 74th iteration with an impressive total of 25 Emmy nominations: 14 in acting categories, effectively breaking the previous record of 13 held by Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man.

The Jesse Armstrong-created series was followed by Ted Lasso and The White Lotus (20) – both of which were also major winners this time around – Hacks (17), Only Murders in the Building (17), Euphoria (16), Barry (14), Dopesick (14), Severance (14), Squid Game (14), Ozark (13), Stranger Things (13), The Marvelous Mrs Maisel (12)then Pam & Tommy (10).

In addition to Outstanding Drama Series, HBO’s Succession also won the top prize in the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series category (Matthew Macfayden – ‘All The Bells Say’), Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series category (Jesse Armstrong – ‘All The Bells Say’), as well as the Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series category (Avy Kaufman & Francine Maisler).

Of course, this isn’t exactly new territory for the beloved satirical black comedy. In 2020, Succession nabbed 18 nominations for its second season. Aside from Outstanding Drama Series, it eventually took home a gold statuette for the following:

  • Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series (Jeremy Strong, ‘This Is Not For Tears’)
  • Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series (Jesse Armstrong, ‘This Is Not For Tears’)
  • Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series (Andrij Parekh, ‘Hunting’)
  • Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series (Cherry Jones, ‘Tern Haven’)
  • Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series (Avy Kaufman)
  • Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series (Bill Henry & Venya Bruk, ‘This Is Not for Tears’)
