Sydney Is Hosting The ‘Gran Turismo’ 2020 Championship Opener Next Month

— Updated on 30 July 2021

The best racing game on the market is making its competitive debut in Australia next month as Sydney hosts the opening round of the Gran Turismo 2020 Championship.

Entering its third year, the FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championship has become one of the biggest eSports events on the gaming calendar. Taking place over a weekend in the harbour city, the momentous event will be held at Luna Park’s Big Top in front of a live audience and streamed to millions of fans worldwide.

Gamers will compete in two different comps over the two days. The Manufacturer Series features 12 teams of three representing a variety of automakers battling it out amongst each other for top honours, while the Nations Cup is an individual racing event with 24 players from across the globe tearing up various tracks trying to claim the number one spot at the finish.

50 of the world’s top players will be involved, including racers from Europe, North and South America, Asia, New Zealand, and of course, Australia. Local gun Cody Nikola Latkovski – who finished second in both the Manufacturer Series and Nations Cup at the 2019 World Finals in Monaco – is our best hope of grabbing the gold at this year’s tournament.

The Grand Turismo 2020 Championship opener is held at the Big Top in Luna Park on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16. Tickets are available for free here.
