It would appear that we’re reaching the endgame as series creator Eric Kripke confirms The Boys season 5 will mark the hit Amazon Prime Video adaptation’s closing instalment.
Ahead of the fourth season’s three-episode premiere, which is scheduled to occur tomorrow (June 13th, 2024) at the time of this writing, Kripke posted a redacted script page from the forthcoming season 4 finale — the bottom of which read: “SEE YOU FOR OUR FINAL SEASON, MOTHERF***ERS!”

“From the very beginning, I wanted to wrap it out around season 5,” Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter.
“And then I would say plans really solidified that we were going to actually do it years ago. I think we were probably in the middle of making season 3, so it could have been three or four years ago that we always knew.
The man behind Supernatural added: “I don’t know why I like the number five so much; it’s a good round number to where you get enough. It might have been because I was trained as a TV writer and there were five acts. It gives you enough time to get to know the characters.”

“You can have your calm-before-the-storm moment, which is kind of what season 4 is for me. I say calm… you know what I mean. It’s about the characters and then you kick off into a climax.”
Elsewhere, series star Jack Quaid (who portrays Hughie Campbell) echoed his showrunner’s sentiments, stating the flagship property’s swan song had been the intended gameplan “for a long time”; before expressing his gratitude to the show’s writers and fans, and telling the world to “buckle the f**k up.”
Anyway, here’s everything we know about The Boys season 5 so far.

Has The Boys season 5 been confirmed by Amazon Prime Video?
Yes — as outlined above, The Boys season 5 is locked and loaded over at Amazon Prime Video; and will represent the flagship series’ last chapter.
By all accounts, the longstanding battle between vigilante operative Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Trumpian satire of a superhero Homelander (Antony Starr) is reaching its long-awaited climax.
“The show is a serialized story that is about Butcher and Homelander slowly crashing into each other, and the show doesn’t work without either of those,” explained creator & showrunner Eric Kripke.
“So, you just can’t keep that going on forever, you have to let them smash into each other.”
“The show must go on”
Given the sweeping success of the series, Amazon Prime Video has since greenlit an entire litany of associated binge fodder ranging from the similarly R-rated college spin-off Gen V — which has recently been renewed for season 2; the animated anthology Diabolical; to the upcoming The Boys: Mexico spin-off; with “a couple of other projects” reportedly in the developmental stages.
In other words, there’s more to come beyond the whole Butcher vs Homelander saga.
“We’ve been lucky in that The Boys has become one of their flagships,” Eric Kripke said of Amazon Prime Video.
“We get a level of freedom that it’ll be hard to repeat anywhere. That said, we have budget battles. But, ultimately, we figure out a way. We made Gen V for a lot less money, and there’s a target that we have to hit on that show — whether we like it or not.”
He continued: “Look, I love this universe and this is the best job I’ve ever had; so hopefully Gen V will continue. It’s just this particular story, the Butcher vs. Homelander story, that needs to come to a close. But I think this universe is a big one, and I think there’s room for other stories and other corners of it.”
What will the fifth season of The Boys be about?
While Boss Hunting was fortunate enough to preview the entirety of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys season 4, currently, we’re not at liberty to discuss the gory details (check back in come June 18th, 2024). From the vice presidency of closeted supe Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) to Homelander’s unchecked reign.
Suffice it to say, the forthcoming season finale will be a jaw-dropping affair that squarely positions the ongoing storyline for what promises to be a bloody resolution. We’re talking no-holds-barred carnage and (fictional) casualties galore.
“I know in a rough way,” revealed Eric Kripke (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“We very intentionally leave a lot of space in there for the writers to surprise me and to take a left turn if we feel like it. I don’t totally know how we’re going to get there, but I know the destination.”
With the clock ticking on Karl Urban’s Butcher and the biological weapon teased in Gen V now in play, the complexion of the titular Boys’ war against Homelander, Vought, and supes in general has completely changed.

When is The Boys season 5 release date (Australia or otherwise)?
Assuming cameras begin rolling within the next six months — and assuming Hollywood won’t be hit with dual strikes again, nor another global pandemic — we can reasonably expect The Boys season 5 release date to fall sometime between mid-to-late 2025 and early 2026.
The Boys season 4, on the other hand, premieres with three episodes right off the bat on June 13th, 2024.
Has The Boys season 5 trailer been dropped yet?
At this stage, there definitely isn’t a trailer for The Boys season 5. We’ll update you when the time comes. In the meantime, check out the season 4 preview above.
