Your prayers have been answered: in the wake of the first season’s Hindi remake starring Aditya Roy and Anil Kapoor premiering on Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and the BBC have jointly decided to give the people what they’ve been asking for with The Night Manager season 2.

Hailing the return of both Tom Hiddleston as ex-soldier/titular hotel night manager/intelligence asset, Jonathan Pine, and season 1 screenwriter David Farr, the sophomore instalment of the critically-acclaimed John le Carré adaptation is reportedly scheduled to begin shooting later this year in London and South America; potentially leading into a third season.

“Although it is yet to be formally greenlit by Amazon and the BBC, we hear that it is set to receive a two-season order,” reports Max Goldbart and Peter White of Deadline.

So what will the story entail this time around?

Max Goldbart and Peter White add: “The second run of The Ink Factory’s adaptation is understood to be set in the present day. Following British arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie) being taken away by the Syrians at the end of season 1, Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine is informed he is dead two years later, and he has to face up to a new, even more deadly challenge.”

Vague, although considering The Night Manager is not only one of the greatest John le Carré adaptations to date right next to Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, but potentially some of the greatest espionage media the world has been treated to period, it’s an intriguing prospect all the same.

Additional cast members, release date, and of course, the trailer for The Night Manager season 2 has yet to be revealed. Fingers crossed we see more of Elizabeth Debicki as Jemima “Jed” Marshall and Olivia Colman as Foreign Office task force manager Angela Burr.

Stay tuned for the details.
