Considering his greatest accomplishment was an HBO series – and the fact his most recent fully-realised project/only fully-realised project since then was produced by HBO’s parent company – it’s hard to imagine The Sopranos creator David Chase stepping away from the Warner Bros Discovery family. But clearly, there’s a reason why he’s decided to take on a development deal with FX (in addition to his other five-year deal with Warner).
The Hollywood Reporter indicates Chase and Hannah Fidell (A Teacher) are currently co-writing and co-creating a crime drama for the Disney-owned outlet. Fidell will also direct and executive produce with Chase alongside Chase Films’ Nicole Lambert. At this stage, however, there’s significant mystery shrouding said crime drama’s story.
Initially, speculation pointed towards Chase’s unproduced period drama A Ribbon Of Dreams – a narrative following two men who encounter a number of legendary figures responsible for shaping the modern entertainment industry.

As we’ve previously explained:
The pilot episode takes place in 1913 and follows these two men – a college-educated mechanical engineer and cowboy with a violent past – who soon form “an unlikely producing partnership” to become pioneers and powers in the age of motion pictures. In terms of character arcs, they’ll “begin as employees of D.W. Griffith… then cross career paths with John Ford, John Wayne, Raoul Walsh, Bette Davis, Billy Wilder”; as well as others who were pivotal in shaping Hollywood as it transitioned from silent Westerns to the golden era “talkies” and the studio system, auteur movement, television, before finally arriving to present day.
Of course, none of this is particularly relevant in the fact of reality. Anyways…
Apart from denying what’s coming is A Ribbon Of Dreams, all inside sources have revealed about the forthcoming David Chase + Hannah Fiddell FX drama is it’s “about the witness protection program.”

“According to FX, the untitled series is based on one of Chase’s previously unproduced scripts of which Fidell has written a contemporary take. Further plot details are being kept under wraps,” notes Variety.
“Should the project go forward, it would be Chase’s first television series since The Sopranos, the groundbreaking HBO mafia drama that he created.”
