When it was first announced that Joe Rogan agreed to an exclusive multiyear licensing deal with Spotify back in 2020, many questioned whether it was the right move for either party.
The idea of limiting the patron saint of the modern dudebro to a single platform was questioned; and while Spotify had essentially signed the world’s most influential podcaster/world’s #1 podcast, this would occasionally prove to be a pyrrhic victory given the controversy Rogan attracted (i.e. use of racial slurs, COVID-19 misinformation, promoting conspiracy theories).

But clearly, the partnership has appeared exceedingly fruitful. To the point where they’ve upped the ante with a fresh contract worth even more than the first — US$250 million (AU$385 million), according to The Wall Street Journal — with the added benefit of non-exclusivity.
Under the terms of this new agreement, The Joe Rogan Experience will once again be available on competing services such as Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and YouTube. It’ll also entail an upfront minimum guarantee plus a revenue-sharing agreement based on ad sales facilitated by the media service; meaning Rogan may be about to bank a whole lot more scratch.
