Ryan Reynolds’s new venture as a sports team owner is off to a hot start, following the fairytale promotion of his Wrexham AFC just a couple of weeks ago, but the competition for his next target has just gotten a little more exciting. The Hollywood A-lister is currently in the process of negotiating the purchase of the Ottawa Senators ice hockey team, but Ryan Reynolds won’t be taking over without a fight from the one and only Snoop Dogg who has stated his intentions to buy the Canadian franchise.
According to The Athletic, Snoop Dogg has added his name to the take-over bid of the Los Angeles-based entrepreneur and film producer Neko Sparks, who are reportedly discussing a final sale number landing north of US1$ billion (AU$1.5 billion). While it’s not been revealed how much money Snoop Dogg will be putting up himself, it’s certainly made the race to find the Senators a new owner a more interesting one.
“He’s passionately involved. He’s coming up with ideas. And he’s legitimately excited,” said a source with knowledge of the Sparks bid. “He wants this team.”
This sentiment has been publicly confirmed by the D-O-double-G, who took to Instagram overnight posting, “Amazing what [Neko Sparks] is trying to do in Ottawa. I’m looking forward to being apart [sic] of that ownership team. I WANNA BRING HOCKEY BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.”
According to reports by The Ottawa Sun, there are a total of seven ownership groups interested in purchasing the ice hockey team, with Ryan Reynolds involved with the Remington Group that’s led by real estate investor Christopher Bratty. The Sparks group of investors is understood to include around a dozen members, with the addition of Snoop Dogg an unconventional one so late in the bidding process.
The next round of negotiations and submissions for ownership are due in the next fortnight
