You often hear about people parlaying their fifteen minutes into an entire career (or at least attempting to), perhaps even earning a pretty penny along the way. For Brian Baumgartner – otherwise known as the lovable and slow-talking dullard Kevin Malone from The Office US – these past twelve months have been very kind to his bank account. In addition to whatever residuals he was cashing in from the hit sitcom prior to all this, the man secured a gig hosting Spotify’s official The Office podcast, as well as the title of highest-earner on celebrity booking app Cameo for 2020.

According to Cameo Co-Founder & CEO Steven Galanis on the latest episode of The New York Times’ Sway podcast, Baumgartner managed to rake in over US$1 million in revenue from serving out custom shoutouts alone – both in and out of character. Most likely fielding more requests for the former. We assume. And although Cameo takes a 25% cut, you have to admit, that’s still a lot of cheddar spilt chilli.

“He really takes a lot of pride in his craftsmanship of the videos,” says Galanis.

“And I do think the quality of the Cameo is something that is really important to people. And he just is somebody that really takes it seriously and does a great job.”

“He’s reliable. He turns them around quickly. And the content is really funny.”

Currently, a personalised message from Brian Baumgartner / Kevin Malone will set you back US$196, but as noted by the observant folks over at The AVClub, this has probably been lowered; unless he really did record approximately 5,200 messages… in which case, the man deserves his pay and title of top Cameo earner even more so.
