It goes without saying, but is definitely worth repeating: at Boss Hunting, we’re fans of high-quality footwear in all its forms. From dress shoes to classic white sneakers, there’s never been a wider range of men’s footwear styles to choose from than in 2024 — a shoe for every occasion.

Somewhat inconveniently though, the way shoe sizes are measured differs across the globe, which can deter some buyers from pulling the trigger on a great pair they’ve seen online.

Below, we’ve pulled together a chart for Australian men’s shoe size conversions: including equivalent sizes in the US, UK, and EU.

After determining your equivalent Australian men’s shoe size, consider a handful of our other tips below in order to achieve the best possible fit.

Metrics For Measuring Men’s Shoe Size

Length

How To Measure: Place your heel against a straight edge, such as a wall, with your toes pointing away. Then, use a ruler to measure the distance, where your foot touches the wall to the end of your longest toe. Note: this isn’t always necessarily the hallux (i.e. the ‘big’ toe).

Write down the measured number.

Width

How To Measure: Lay a ruler flat on the floor, stepping on it with the ball of your foot — the widest point of your foot. Reposition the ruler so that you can measure the distance between the ventral and lateral sides of your foot.

Again, don’t forget to write down the measured number!

Being ‘Between’ Shoe Sizes

In cases where you happen to be in between shoe sizes, we recommend that you go up one size.

Do I Need To Know The Width Of My Shoe?

Beyond the size of the shoe itself, which is determined by length, there needs to be further evaluations for the overall fit as well. This means looking at how elements like width play into your overall comfort.

Although it’s increasingly rare for brands (particularly in the athletic footwear space) to offer a shoe size of varying widths, traditional European dress shoemakers often still do specify widths.

For example: British maker Crockett & Jones always disclose the narrowness/width of their styles under the “Fitting” section.
