Hidden away between the conifer trees on the shores of Lake Vänern, Sweden, is a recently constructed A-frame home whose striking visual impression is as impressive as its eco credentials. Its eye-catching construction is the first design of the freshly established Naturvillan architecture firm, founded by Anders Solvarm and Niklas Dahlström who established their studio to create more sustainably built homes that will last generations.
Despite the unmissable figure this A-frame design cuts across the landscape, the ethos behind its construction is to integrate with the natural surroundings, using significant amounts of timber exposed by the transparent glass panels that cover the home. In addition to the glass panes that cover its entire surface, the upper sections of the frame feature a large number of semi-transparent solar panels that allow the structure to be both off the grid and energy efficient.
Effectively a soaring three-story atrium with sizable dining and living spaces inside, the home features a well-fed greenhouse beneath its roof that brings an element of the surrounding nature inside, while a timber staircase takes its occupants up to the closed-off master bedroom and office. It’s an impressive build as the first project that Naturvillan has completed, which is sure to generate further interest as they grow their footprint across Sweden and Norway.
