The term “Hollywood power couple” is used rather liberally these days, referring to any two public figures who receive more attention than their deeds actually warrant. In the case of Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, however, it’s right on the money — beyond the acquisition of their bucolic Los Angeles farm home.
Ashton Kutcher has distinguished himself in the world of venture capitalism through his firm A-Grade Investments. He’s most notably bankrolled a few little-known start-ups such as Uber, Airbnb, Spotify, Shazam, Soundcloud, “insurtech” service Lemonade, and plenty more. According to his team, the biochemical engineering student turned model turned actor turned serial entrepreneur has watched US$30 million / AU$35 million worth of investments become US$250 million / AU$320 million worth of assets.
It also doesn’t hurt the bank account when you were earning US$20 million / AU$26 million per season for Two and a Half Men. To date, Ashton Kutcher has an estimated net worth of over US$200 million / AU$257 million (conservative given he surrendered a portion of assets post-divorce from Demi Moore).

Mila Kunis ain’t exactly a slouch either. As a pop cultural fixture on both the big and small screen, these days, the Ukrainian transplant’s principal form of income revolves around Seth McFarlane’s long-running Fox animated series, Family Guy. Voicing the perennially down-on-her-luck Meg, Kunis reportedly takes home a sizable US$225,000 / AU$288,000 per episode.
Family guy has been on the air for over twenty years and is fast approaching its 400th episode. To date, Mila Kunis has an estimated net worth of over US$75 million / AU$96 million. Suffice it to say, both parties have come a long way since the days of being cast members of That 70s Show, in more ways than one.
“We wanted a home, not an estate,” Mila Kunis explains to Architectural Digest.
“We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant. Building a house from the ground up is no small thing. This was either going to make us or break us.”
“When we looked at each other’s boards, 90% of the images we selected were the same, and most of the houses we pinned were designed by [Howard Backen],” says Ashton Kutcher.
“Howard is like a great software designer, someone who approaches design as an accentuation of function. A software designer wants to get people where they want to be with the fewest clicks.”
“Howard wants to get you where you want to be with the fewest doors and obstacles. He also knows that there are certain places where you want a barrier to mark a threshold and create a little friction.”

Dubbed KuKu Farms by Kutcher and Kunis – which obviously takes “Ku” from both surnames – this French-inspired neoclassical residency is a thing of great pleasure. From the reclaimed wood, floor-to-ceiling windows, right down to the freestanding barbecue pavilion by the pool, it’s the kind of place where life is allowed to move a little slower; and that’s OK. In contrast to the simpler aspects of design vernacular, with the help of Vicky Charles from Charles & Co., the details are very much luxe. Like an extravagant 10-foot-long crystal chandelier commissioned by Kutcher on a trip to India.
“We thought it would be funny to have this incredibly opulent thing hanging in a barn… It kind of takes the piss out of the property,” says Kunis in direct reference to the “improbable crystal confection.”
Chez Ashton Kutcher avec Mila Kunis also happens to be quite the sustainable compound. Here are just some of the features which make the gorgeous, hilltop pad green in addition to chic:
- Well on property to irrigate land
- Planted + harvested cornfield
- Agriculture-primed soil
- House entirely powered by concealed photovoltaics (“the house’s solar array produces significantly more power than the property requires”)
