The Porsche 934Ā has a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts. Beyond the rarity and racing legacy, its sleek sweeping form has captured imaginations for decades.
In total, just 31 examples of the 934 ever rolled off Porsche’s factory floor, which was why this sculpture by Glasgow-born artist Benedict Radcliffe represented a rare opportunity to almost own an example of the legendary car.
This Porsche 934 sculpture recently arrived at auction via the UK-based outfit Collecting Cars, selling for a whopping Ā£201,000 (AU$402,055) after a hard-fought battle that attracted 218 bids. For that price, there’s almost no doubt it’ll take pride of place in the new owner’s garage. Or man cave.
Radcliffe’s Porsche 934Ā notably debut at the 2022 edition of Milan Design Week, eventually turning heads at Porsche China shows in Beijing and Shanghai. The showstopping exhibition piece was brought to life using 32mm mild steel tubes, which were meticulously curved and shaped to faithfully recreate the car in 1:1 proportions.
While Radcliffe’s life-sized Porsche has now found a more permanent home (at least for the time being), if you’re keen to own another 1:1 work from the UK-based artist, he’s currently offering a London taxi sculpture for sale on his website for $204,296. But if that’s a little beyond your budget, and your heart was set on a Porsche, there’s also a 1:15 scale Porsche 959 made from composite resin, which will set you back a comparatively more affordable $5,108.
