Brad Pitt might be reaching the twilight years of his acting career, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still pushing himself creatively in other areas of his life. This week, Brad Pitt opened his debut art exhibition at the Sara Hildén Art Museum with the one and only Nick Cave, both of whom are exhibiting alongside the famed British artist Thomas Houseago.
The exhibition, titled WE, is the first in the Nordic countries for Houseago whose sculptural works are typically executed in plaster, rebar, bronze and wood, and have been celebrated at the Whitney Biennial for contemporary American art. In recent years, however, Houseago has enjoyed developing his talent as a painter and is exhibiting a number of expressive paintings from his Visions series at the Sara Hildén Art Museum this month.

What’s the connection to Pitt and Cave? Simply put, they are both Houseago’s friends and collaborated with him on the exhibition to, “recontextualise the concept of original creation to challenge the idea of the artist as a solitary individual and celebrate a more collectivist approach.” An engaging angle of approach, especially if you’ve got friends with the star power of Pitt and Cave.
All counted, Brad Pitt is exhibiting nine different works of art in the exhibition that include a gunfight narrative moulded into a plaster panel, a series of house-shaped sculptures moulded in clear silicone that has been shot by various gauges of firearm ammunition and a sculpture made from a composite of timber off-cuts also in the shape of a house. Cave’s artistic expression, on the other hand, is focused entirely on glazed ceramic figures, which tell the story of the life of the Devil through 17 separate pieces.

“I’m very happy and proud that Thomas Houseago decided to bring WE to Tampere. It is also exciting to get to experience a new and different artistic side of Nick Cave and Brad Pitt,” said Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Mayor of Tampere in an interview with Yahoo! Finance. “WE delivers a strong message of working together, creating something new and a sense of community that is compatible with Tampere, as the city is known for its capacity for change and making bold decisions together. The message of doing together and relying on each other is very powerful in these turbulent times.”
The WE exhibition is currently open to the public and will run until the 15th of January, 2023.
