UPDATE [3/09/21]: Former 007 Pierce Brosnan has encountered a rare mission fail after the US$100 million / AU$135 million Malibu mansion he placed on the market back in September 2020 hasn’t received a satisfactory offer. Brosnan is reportedly refusing to part ways with Orchid House for any sum less than the hefty one outlined. Go figure.

In 2000 – after filming The Thomas Crown Affair, The World Is Not Enough, and The Tailor of Panama – Pierce Brosnan purchased almost 1.2 acres of beachfront Californian land in two separate acquisitions for US$7.35 million / AU$9.9 million all up. Years later, the former Bond star would knock down what was once a midcentury ranch house to rebuild a much larger estate inspired by his time spent in Thailand with the help of architects Ross and Ralph Anderson. Fast forward to present day and Pierce Brosnan has now listed his Malibu mansion – for a considerable asking price of US$100 million / AU$135 million.
Dubbed “Orchid House”, this Malibu mansion was a decade long labour of love, and can only be described as resort-like. 12,500 square feet spread across the main and guest house… 120 feet of direct ocean frontage on Broach Beach… a private beach within Broad Beach connected to the property complete with imported sand… a saltwater swimming pool… 7 fireplaces… 9 bedrooms… 14 bathrooms – suffice it to say, this certainly isn’t your everyday multi-million dollar McMansion. In the words of Variety, Orchid House is a “casually extravagant” example of architecture showcasing an “extraordinary amount of care and craftsmanship.”

- Library/art studio
- State-of-the-art screening room
- Fully-equipped bar (“he loves to have a martini“) w/ climate-controlled wine cellar for 200 bottles

So why the move from an ostensibly beloved location? As Brosnan tells The Wall Street Journal, now that the kids have grown up and left the nest, it’s time to “move on”. The actor and his wife – Keely Shaye Brosnan – have been spending more and more time in Hawaii where the latter grew up. These days, you’ll likely find the Brosnan patriarch and matriarch at their beach compounded overlooking the northern shores of Kauai.
