Speyside distillery The Glenlivet have released the final limited edition release in their exclusive Winchester Collection – now one of the rarest and most expensive blends of single malts ever released for general sale.
Just 150 examples of the Vintage 1967 will be available for purchase at US$25,000 (AU$35,000) per bottle. The decanter was pioneered by British designer Bethan Gray to create a hand-blown glass bottle inspired by “the rolling hills and layers of mist that gather in the surrounding valleys” of The Glenlivet distillery in Scotland. No two bottles are exactly alike, with each engraved and hand-painted.
Curated by Glenlivet’s Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, the Vintage 1967 was aged for over half a century in a number of rare oak casks and “boasts a rich and fruity nose, notes of apricot jam and sweet ripe peaches, and a hint of toasted almonds,” Glenlivet confirm.
The bottle comes in a hand-stained birds-eye maple case featuring solid copper overlays and mother-of-pearl inlays in homage to Glenlivet’s charred barrels, copper stills and the mussel shells found in the Spey River.
