- Melbourne dining institution France-Soir has just opened cocktail and wine bar Le Splendide.
- Le Splendide is as discreet and exclusive as wine bars come, requesting guests to cover their phone cameras before entering.
- Located next door to France-Soir at 9 Toorak Road, South Yarra, the new wine bar is now open.
There aren’t too many Melbourne venues that require a sticker over your phone camera — much less a wine bar — but Le Splendide ain’t your typical venue. Five years in the making, Le Splendide is the brand-new wine and cocktail bar by the team at Melbourne dining institution France-Soir, which has recently (and very quietly) opened its doors.
Located next door to France-Soir at 9 Toorak Road, South Yarra, Le Splendide has been a half-decade-in-the-making passion project of France-Soir Jean-Paul Prunetti. With an interior designed by Prunetti himself and an even more extensive wine list than the remarkable collection offered at France-Soir, it’s elevated in all the right ways.
Even from the street front, where France-Soir’s windows reveal a bustling and energetic service beyond, the interior of Le Splendide is hidden behind heavy curtains and an unassuming entrance. Inside, you’ll find an exotic antique-decorated destination for late-night conversation, serving up all your favourite classic cocktails and light appetisers for a light snack.
At the moment, Le Splendide remains very much IYKYK. If you’re keen to indulge in a bottle of Champagne with a friend or two, we’d suggest paying a visit before it becomes more widely known.
