Few liquids can rise to the occasion of a Sydney summer. As the mercury creeps higher and the nights grow longer, a drink of the alcoholic persuasion is never far from anyone’s hand. For this summer season, the pre-requisites of flavour, purity and prestige can only consistently be delivered – sip after sip – by Patrón’s El Cielo.
Its ethereal interpretation loosely translates as “the heavens.” Patrón El Cielo has a diamond-like purity alongside an incredibly light and sweet profile; the result of repeat distillation and agave harvested from some of the highest plantations in Jalisco.
Off the back of their sky-high launch at CIRQ, the highest open-air rooftop bar in Sydney, Patrón El Cielo has appropriately found a more permanent home for the warmer months at Crown Sydney. The ‘Savour Summer’ package not only unlocks the best of the famed harbourside hotel and hospitality Mecca, but also gives guests the chance to sample Patrón El Cielo for themselves.
Let’s unpack the takeover, which you can experience for yourself until the end of February. We’re talking complimentary serves of Patrón El Cielo on arrival, Patrón touchpoints around the glorious Crown Sydney pool, gun barrel views of the harbour from your room, and a noon late checkout with buffet breakfast for two.
The beauty of Patrón El Cielo is its veracity as a standalone liquid. It’s almost too pure to consider drinking any other way than on its own, which is why those who book the ‘Savour Summer’ package will get to enjoy Patrón El Cielo as a signature serve on arrival at TWR – The Waiting Room.
While you’re going through the check-in motions, or waiting for your room to be ready, you’ll be offered two complimentary signature serves of Patrón El Cielo. That’s quadruple-distilled tequila on the rocks with nothing but a humble slice of orange. It’s smooth, slightly sweet, and the only way to kick off your stay in maximum relaxation mode. If you prefer something a little more refreshing on a hot summer’s day, the alternative El Cielo Spritz is by no means a consolation.
The package starts at $739 for a Deluxe King Room – 47 square metres of capaciousness perched above the harbour with floor-to-ceiling water views. The real estate in the bathroom is just as impressive, with a separate shower, deep soaking bathtub and a ‘his & hers’ vanity.
After something a few floors higher? Anything up to the penthouse can be optioned when booking should you desire it for an additional fee.
There are few places we’d rather be in the belting summer heat than poolside on Crown Sydney’s fifth-floor. The pool sits quietly above the madness of Barangaroo and gets all of the glorious sunset rays from its westerly aspect with the sparkling hotel building towering above it.
Patrón’s El Cielo Signature Serve and Spritz are on the drinks menu for all who find themselves lounging around by the water across the summer months, be it in a cabana, on a daybed floating above the water, or under one of the Patrón-branded umbrellas dotted around the pool deck.
Those who have had the opportunity to sample some of Crown’s acclaimed dining scene will know that it’s a wise move to keep your dinner plans on-site. Ours consisted of a few warm-up margaritas at CIRQ, the aforementioned rooftop bar, followed by a scrumptious meal at Crown’s a’Mare.
It’s common parlance in the Sydney dining scene that you can’t say you’ve dabbled in a’Mare’s culinary delights unless you’ve had the iconic Trofie al pesto – made in front of you at your table. What they don’t tell you is that it’s recommended you wash it down with a couple of black salted margaritas. If Italian isn’t your cuisine of choice for the evening, you can also consider dining at Woodcut, Nobu, or Silks next door. Rest assured that none of the delectable dining offerings within the doors at Crown are second best.
There’s arguably nothing better (especially after a few tequilas) than a late checkout at a luxury hotel. Watch the ferries glide past your view without even getting out of bed, and then eventually drag yourself to Epicurean for one of the most impressive hotel buffet breakfasts this side of the equator. It’s included as part of your Savour Summer package rate for two people and needs to be seen to be believed.
Between the electrifying flavours of this latest prestige silver tequila, and all the different ways in which drinkers are encouraged to try it across the luxury hotel’s many floors, there are few places in Australia where Patrón El Cielo just makes sense like it does at Crown Sydney.
The Savour Summer package taps into what Sydney does best – world-class dining, waterfront relaxation, and little bits of luxury – all best enjoyed with Patrón’s latest ultra-premium tequila in hand.
Patrón El Cielo is available at Crown Sydney and select venues in Australia. Alternatively, pick up a bottle for yourself from Vintage Cellars and Dan Murphy’s.
