In the realm of ultra-premium whisky, The Dalmore’s latest offering — Cask Curation Series: The Port Edition — has firmly staked its claim. This isn’t just a whisky release; it’s an invitation to experience something exceptional, and with only 150 sets available worldwide (two of which are available in Australia), it’s one of 2024’s most exclusive launches.

Produced in partnership with Portugal’s renowned Symington Family Estates (the team behind Graham’s Port), this collection presents a rare intersection of legacy and craftsmanship, Scotland meets Portugal, and whisky meets port — each aspect complementing the other perfectly.

Now, The Port Edition isn’t The Dalmore’s first rodeo with port-finished whiskies, but they’ve certainly dialled it up a notch with this second iteration of their Cask Curation Series. We’re talking about some of the rarest Tawny Port casks from Graham’s, a brand that lives and breathes Portuguese tradition. Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass hand-selected these treasures, each one meticulously chosen to impart something unique into The Dalmore’s spirit. Every drop of The Port Edition reflects this unparalleled attention to detail.

Let’s get into the lineup. First up is the 27-Year-Old, finished in a 1997 Tawny Port cask, bringing notes of Manuka honey and roasted coffee upfront, with ripe figs and dark cacao on the palate. To finish, expect, sugared almonds, crystallised ginger, and a final hit of spice at 49.3% ABV.

Next, the 30-Year-Old, finished in a 1994 Tawny Port cask, delivers warm honey and blood orange on the nose, followed by red liquorice, Tahitian vanilla, and a finish of black cherries and aged maple syrup with an ABV of 43.9%.

Rounding out the trio, we have the showstopper of the series: the 43-Year-Old. This expression was finished in a 1952 Single Harvest Tawny Port cask, an absolute unicorn in the port world, which lends it a profile that’s complex, lush, and worth every second it’s aged. On the nose, expect deep forest fruits, sugared almonds, and star anise, with rich, layered tasting notes of plum compote, marzipan, and a surprising pop of passion fruit. The finish? Imagine iced ginger cake, poached pears, and a hint of leather — a sensory journey at 41.8% ABV.

Each bottle in this collection is housed in a custom Italian leather travel case, trimmed in green to nod to Graham’s Portuguese heritage, and sporting The Dalmore’s 12-point stag emblem — a legacy of Clan Mackenzie dating back to 1263.

The Port Edition isn’t just about rare whisky. It’s about the alchemy between two iconic brands and centuries-old traditions. With future editions already in the pipeline, The Dalmore isn’t just preserving its reputation — they’re rewriting the rulebook for what whisky can be.

The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Port Edition has an RRP of $68,535 per set with only two sets available for purchase in Australia. To learn more, visit The Dalmore online.
