With Easter coming up we’ve been keeping our eyes to the ground about the return of Aldi’s popular $20 hot cross bun gin. No news has emerged about the liqueur just yet, but we’ve already caught wind of a different kind of spirit inspired by the occasion. For its second year, Margaret River distillery The Grove has released a new edition of its Hot Cross Rum, a small-batch production cobbled together as a four-year barrel-aged dark rum finished with an ex-bourbon barrel made of American oak with raisins, oranges and warm spices.
The Grove released its inaugural Hot Cross Rum last year and it was an almost instant sell-out. This year shouldn’t be any different with the rum bringing in a heady profile of cinnamon, cloves and vanilla alongside caramelised raisin and a lingering fruity finish with a touch of molasses.
Hot Cross Rum forms part of The Grove’s limited-edition Collector’s Series, dressed in a uniform bottle made of French Cubic Glass with handwritten labels. Given The Grove
The Hot Cross Rum is bottled at 40% ABV and only 120 bottles of it have been made available for online purchases with Australia-wide delivery. You can grab a 500 ml bottle for $110.
