Melbourne Man Drops $300k On Full Vertical Penfolds Grange Set For Christmas

— Updated on 18 June 2021

An anonymous buyer has purchased a full vertical set of Penfolds Grange from Dan Murphy’s Brighton, for what would seem to be one heck of a Christmas present.

The purchase marks the first full vertical set of 62 bottles of the wine sold from a Dan Murphy’s store, the oldest bottle being Grange’s first vintage in 1951 and the most recent being the 2012, released earlier this year. The set is estimated to have cost over $300,000 (someone was obviously very well behaved this year).

“A sale of this scale is extremely rare and very exciting for the whole Dan Murphy’s team. We have six full sets of Penfolds Grange available from stores across the country, this marks the first being sold in one transaction” said General Manager Campbell Stott.

The customer, an ex-Treasury employee, is thrilled about the transaction and obviously takes his gift-giving very seriously, and why not?

“We all want to hold something we are passionate about. I was searching for a full set of Grange bottles for some time but it was so difficult to do it bottle by bottle. Dan Murphy’s made it very simple & time efficient for me to secure the collection. They were a pleasure to deal with and their “lowest price guarantee” gave me confidence that I wasn’t overpaying…..” the customer said.

Dan Murphy’s is the largest stockist of full Grange sets.

There’s still time to secure your very own full vertical set of Penfolds Grange. Go on, give someone a reason to cheers this Christmas.
