Since washing up on our sunburnt shores two years ago, White Claw has steadily become a summer session staple. At any given gatho – even those hosted outside Australia’s sunnier months – you’ll invariably find those skinny cans of mango, lime, watermelon, ruby grapefruit, and more recently, pineapple. But this month, the beloved hard seltzer is upping the ante with White Claw Surge.

Dominance invites challenge, and shortly after the Claws planted an antipodean flag, Japan’s Strong Zero touched down with -196 Double Lemon. Packing 6% ABV in each frosty bullet, for a while, it seemed as though Strong Zero had effectively big dogged White Claw by a healthy 1.5% ABV margin. But no longer.

Arriving with two of its most popular flavours in the US – Blood Orange & Blackberry – White Claw Surge packs quite a boozy punch: 6.5% ABV, edging out both the original iteration and its Japanese competitor. There is, however, a trade-off. Given how there’s more alcohol content, you’re looking at 220 calories, though only 2g of carbs, per 330ml as opposed to the relatively negligible 95 calories attached to a standard White Claw. Either way… you’re in for a good time.

“We are excited to extend the White Claw range in Australia,” said Scott Walton, President of Mark Anthony Brands International.

“When we first launched here in October 2020, we sold one million cans in the first week. The Hard Seltzer category is now worth $210 million and growing 188% year-on-year with White Claw being the number one contributor to value growth last summer.”

“Globally, there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to White Claw Surge. As the global leader in the hard seltzer category, I am confident we will see similar success here in Australia with these two delicious flavours: Blood Orange & Blackberry.”

White Claw Surge Blood Orange & Blackberry will be available to purchase via Dan Murphy’s this week before rolling out nationwide by November 14th. The RRP? $30 for a four-pack.
