Now that we’re heading into the guts of 2023, we’re starting to see some big-name restaurants open their doors after months – in some cases, years – of planning. For Sydney, the first cab off the rank is NOMAD Group with ambitious two-parter Beau, located on Reservoir Street in Surry Hills right next to NOMAD Sydney.

Considering NOMAD Sydney is still considered one of the best restaurants in Sydney, Beau is debuting to some pretty lofty expectations. Head Chef Ibrahim Kasif (ex-Stanbuli) sits at the helm of the all-day venue, which, as above, is split into two parts. The first, Beau & Dough, is the one that just opened with a primary focus on manoush – that is, Lebanese flatbread with oil and za’atar – of all styles. Beau Bar will follow in just a few weeks with a curated wine program and plenty of fresh seafood-centric snacks.

At Beau & Dough, various savoury toppings make up an entire manoush menu across breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although it’s not a one-item type of deal; you’ve also got a Blue Eye Trevella fish burger, spiced chicken shawarma, Middle Eastern salads and various kofta wraps available for lunch, alongside vegetarian options like fried cauliflower with zhug, and tahini with roast pumpkin, baba, silverbeet and muhamara.

While Beau & Dough should be a hit for office workers looking for something different in Surry Hills, NOMAD Group’s show-stopper should be Beau Bar. Snacks here will range from chilled seafood platters and cuttlefish a la Plancha, to lobster thermidor and a curious ox-tongue bun stuffed with Moreton Bay bug and drizzled with Russian sauce. Add to that, a wine list with 300 drops by-the-bottle and a generous by-the-glass section touting tapped, poured and preserved wines.

Other big restaurant openings in Sydney coming over the next few weeks include Josh Nilan’s Peterman, opening on February 23, and Clam Bar Restaurant & Grill in early 2023.
