A garlic bread eating competition and a bevy of food trucks dedicated to everything bread, garlic and butter. Yeah, smells like Melbourne’s annual Garlic Bread Festival is right around the corner with Welcome to Thornbury planning to once again explore the many, many sides of this eternally delicious comfort food.

The Garlic Bread Festival, locked in for Saturday, April 29, has managed to sustain itself for four years now off to back of what is seemingly one of the most straightforward foods there is. Yet, the festival has shown that there’s a lot of variety to be explored with garlic bread, from Mexican-style garlic bread to hybrid options with cheese and bacon.

All of it will be on full display at Welcome to Thornbury’s High Street food truck park, including stations for garlic bread-inspired drinks, snacks and even desserts. Hell, even 4 Pines has come on board with the promise of an exclusive Italian pilsner brew for the festival. There’s no prize for guessing what the brew is inspired by.

Aside from the ridiculous amounts of garlic bread on offer, the festival will be anchored by what Welcome to Thornbury is calling the Garlic Bread Bino where guests get a card on entry and need to mark the different types of garlic bread as they move through the piles of food trucks. Anyone who scratches off all garlic bread styles will get a limited edition garlic bread hoodie and one lucky champ will even get a keg of that Italian pilsner 4 Pines is planning.

The last piece of the Garlic Bread Festival is a good ol’ fashioned eating competition. Teams of four will compete in a Garlic Bread Eating Relay from 3 PM where the winners will be crowned if they manage to eat the most amount of garlic bread in a set amount of time.

The carb-loading food festival is free entry on Saturday, April 29 and kicks off at 12 PM before wrapping at 6 PM.
