  • Seinfeld alum Jason Alexander features in a brand new Uber Eats ad.
  • The chaos that unfolds isn’t too far off from a classic George Costanza scenario (self-imposed, of course).
  • Alexander’s ad spot joins a star-studded stable of campaigns championed by the likes of Kendall & Kris Jenner, Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, and Harry Potter’s Tom Felton.

The world has received the closest instance of Jason Alexander reprising his role as George Costanza thus far thanks to the latest Uber Eats campaign.

In a humorous turn emphasising how you can order almost anything from the app, the hapless funny man summons some canned laughter after failing to land a joke at a dinner party. But much like the regular story circles of his Larry David-inspired sitcom counterpart, Mr Alexander gets much more than he bargained for…

Unable to moderate when the laugh track kicks in, his very existence is now haunted by ill-timed giggles to disastrous results — undercutting his desire to become an action star during a meeting with his management team; hurting a loved one’s feelings while shopping; the funeral of a “good man,” which culminates in being driven out by an angry mob.

“There’s always been a special part in my heart for comedy and the iconic tropes of television of yesteryear,” explained Jason Alexander.

“Working with Uber Eats in a way that was a self-deprecating homage to these elements and why they perhaps don’t hold true today was genuinely great fun.”

Uber Eats Head of Brand, Channa Goonesakara, added: “This campaign would not have worked with anyone else in the world. We were over the moon to be able to work with Jason on this latest iteration of our brand platform.”

“His comedic calamity is instantly recognisable. His performance is brilliantly nostalgic as it builds throughout the hero brand film. He was the perfect custodian to build on the work of Kendall and Kris JennerNicola Coughlan, and Tom Felton to remind Aussies and Kiwis that you can get almost, almost anything on Uber Eats these days.”

The Seinfeld-esque Uber Eats ad starring Jason Alexander is scheduled to be viewed by millions during the AFL Grand Final halftime show — but you can check it out for yourself right now via the link above.
