Aside from Rene Redzepi propping Noma up in Sydney in 2016, and Clare Smyth opening Oncore at Crown Sydney, there aren’t too many recent examples of the world’s most acclaimed chefs showing the harbour city some love. That makes it all the more exciting that chef Simon Rogan, of UK’s three Michelin-star L’Enclume, will be bringing his hugely acclaimed restaurant to Sydney’s Bathers’ Pavilion for a five-week residency guaranteed to be the city’s most anticipated culinary event of 2023.
The L’Enclume Sydney pop-up has been locked in with a start date of July 19, setting up shop in the popular Mosman restaurant where Rogan and about a dozen of his best team members will recreate the award-winning dining experience.
Reportedly, the L’Enclume pop-up has been in the works since just before the pandemic, when the Bathers Pavilion team flew over to meet with Rogan and his culinary crew in December 2019, back when the restaurant “only” had two Michelin stars. Covid obviously put the plans on the back burner so there’s a great deal of anticipation that sits behind this cross-country collaboration.

L’Enclume has the distinction of being the only restaurant in Northern England crowned with the coveted three Michelin star rating, which is still seen as the pinnacle of culinary excellence and has seen many gourmands travel from all over the world just to taste Rogan’s food. The L’Enclume residency in Sydney will be a rare chance for Aussies to skip the flight and get straight to the good stuff, and although the menu is yet to be confirmed we’re expecting to taste some of the kitchen’s signatures like fritters of pig and smoked eel and the famed “Anvil” dessert of caramel mousse with spruce, miso and apple.
The price of a set menu at L’Enclume Sydney has been fixed at $420 for eight courses (plus snacks and petit fours) and either $190, $290 or $750 per person for wine pairings on top. If want a non-alcoholic drink pairing menu, then it’s just $70 per person on top.
Although if you really wanted to make the most of it, Rogan’s sommeliers have also put together a cellar list for diners who want to pre-arrange rare vintages before their booking.
Each sitting across the five-week residency will be capped at 80 diners, so needless to say, bookings will probably be hard to come by once they open at 10 AM on February 14.
