In an effort to sabotage absolutely everyone’s fitness-related New Year’s resolutions for 2023, McDonald’s Australia has announced a tantalising addition to its already calorically-rich menu: Potato Scallops with chicken salt.

From January 11th (today), you’ll be able to feast on these time-honoured – and quite frankly iconic – Aussie treats all across the nation. Both in your local McDonald’s restaurants and via McDelivery.

“Macca’s is giving you another reason to get together this summer, with a menu that’s as good on a road trip with mates as it is at the beach or in the backyard on a summer’s day,” said McDonald’s Australia Marketing Director Tim Kenward.

“We’ve got the latest spins on your burger favourites, topped off with the debut of Potato Scallops with Chicken Salt and Hokey Pokey Thickshake.”

“Whatever your plans are, we’ve got you covered, because nothing quite goes together like the great Aussie summer and Macca’s.”

As alluded to earlier, other domestic debutantes coming to the golden arches include the following:

  • Aussie Angus Deluxe
100% Aussie Angus beef patty, served with bacon, beetroot, Macca’s cheese, lettuce, tomato relish, and aioli on a classic bun.
  • McSpicy Deluxe
100% Aussie, RSPCA-Approved chicken fillet covered in a fiery crispy chilli coating, mayo, lettuce, cheese, and tomato on a sesame seed bun.
  • Hokey Pokey Thickshake
McDonald’s says the “highly requested Hokey Pokey” Thickshake is a thick, smooth, and creamy milkshake mixed with Hokey Pokey flavoured syrup.

The one downside, aside from whatever it’ll do to your summer rig, is that Potato Scallops will only be served in McDonald’s for a limited time. So enjoy it while it lasts.

Side note: I don’t care what you mutants in Victoria and South Australia try to tell me — they’re Potato Scallops. Not “potato cakes.” And certainly not “potato fritters.” Pull ya head in.
