It may look egregious to some. In fact, most cocktail enthusiasts would be crying inside if they saw this serve up at a bar. And yet, there’s something strangely alluring about the overindulgence of the Messina Salted Caramel Easter Egg cocktails, which the famed Australian dessert brand has created in collaboration with Cocktail Porter.

Let’s be clear, there are very few Easter cocktails – if any – that don’t completely pervert the idea of a skillfully balanced lick of mixology. But Messina surely knows that and despite any trepidation from those who take their liquor seriously, these specially themed cocktail kits will be hot property in the lead up to the Easter long weekend.

Just weeks after bringing back its gelato-filled easter eggs, Messina and Cocktail Porter are now touting these DIY kits, which come packed with Baileys, cold-drop coffee and Mr Black Coffee Liqueur, along with pieces of salted caramel popcorn and chocolate Easter eggs to hold all that liquid. There’s actually no gelato included in the cocktail kits, instead using Messina’s dulche de leche topping to drive most of the flavour, which is undoubtedly sugary and excessively rich.

From photos, it looks like the egg is best placed over an actual glass to avoid any drippage, after which you simply sip the cocktail through a straw and eat the egg after you’re done.

The Messina Easter cocktail kits come with instructions on exactly what you should be layering into the Easter egg and you’ve got the choice between two sizes. The small kit will set you back $80 and make five drinks while the large one is priced at $145 and makes 12 drinks.

You can only get the kits through Cocktail Porter but delivery is nationwide and it’s recommended to get in early if you want these kits before the Easter long weekend rolls around.
