After being crowned the “world’s best restaurant” twice, Mirazur has quickly become one of the most hotly anticipated culinary experiences in the world. And it looks like the French restaurant is planning a short-lived residency in Sydney later this year, popping up at Pier One Sydney Harbour’s The Gantry restaurant.

In 2019, the three-Michelin-starred French eatery managed to best the likes of Noma and Eleven Madison Park to be named the number one restaurant in the world. Helmed by chef Mauro Colagreco, the fine dining institution of Menton, France managed to top the list again in 2021, shoring up demand and kick-starting the Mirazur Beyond Borders project, a concept where the core team travel the world to cook in new environments.

Hence, Sydney. Just a week after it was announced that three-Michelin-starred British restaurant L’enclume is planning an extensive residency at Sydney’s Bather’s Pavilion, it appears the harbour city is going to be teeming with culinary prowess over the next few months.

The Mirazur Sydney residency will only last for three weeks, however. It all starts on March 10, with Colagreco and his core team making their way down under to transpose the Mirazur experience from its original location on the sparkling waters of Cote D’Azur to Sydney Harbour.

Sustainability, nature and biodiversity play large roles for Mirazur, so expect robust, fresh flavours. Colagreco will benefit from The Gantry’s current connections to some of the country’s best producers to achieve this, although beyond that there hasn’t been any indication as to what kind of dishes we can expect. Though it’s safe to expect versions of the Mirazur signatures like anchovies with fried skeletons and lemons, oysters with tapioca, shallot cream and pear, and salt-crusted beetroot with caviar cream.

“It’s very important for me and my team to learn from and experiment with the ingredients we find in the country we visit, and to learn from all the people and products we encounter on the way,” said Colagreco.

“Although we are coming to Australia for a few weeks, I already know we will leave with something that lasts forever.”

Mirazur Beyond Borders at The Gantry will run from March 10 through March 31 and will be open for lunch and dinner five days per week, from Wednesdays to Sundays. A set menu will be priced at $685 per person with wine pairing options starting from $210.

Bookings open on February 13 at 12 PM local time, although you can register interest now.
