Last year, Geelong broke a record that never really existed in the first place. It became the first city in Australia to welcome a sushi-train-style cheese restaurant called Splatters. And so far, the place has proven immensely popular, with solid reviews across the board and an inventive selection of local and imported cheeses carted around the space via a conveyor belt under clear plastic kloshes.

If you’ve ever been to a sushi train before, you know exactly how Splatters works. It’s an inventive and slightly odd concept from owner Jo Bangles, who described it upon opening as the “ultimate grazing experience.” The simple space, which used to be a chemist, has one central bar around which a 20-metre looped track has been built, featuring on average around 20 cheeses at a time on colour-coded plates, each with house-made accompaniments. Free crackers and local charcuterie are also available along with local sourdough bread with various infused butters and stuffed olives.

It’s also fully licensed, so there are some local wines and beers thrown in the mix too. Basically, it just sounds like a damn good time and more than just a curiosity drawing cheese lovers to Geelong. Even moreso until the end of this month because Splatters is offering a $39 set of bottomless cheeses straight through to March 31.

Just rock up, part with $39 and you’ve got 90 minutes to grab all the cheese you so please. You would need a booking, however, so take note before you head along to stuff your face with some of the best cheeses Australia has to offer.
