  • The Gidley Burger has been ranked #9 in the Top 10 Burger 2024 list (presented by World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants).
  • As the sole Australian inclusion, it is effectively also the entire nation’s best burger.
  • London’s Salt Shed (Shoreditch) currently occupies the worldwide throne.

For a continent of just 26 million, Australia certainly punches above its weight when it comes to athletics and elite cuisine. Our latest achievement in the latter department is just the latest slice of proof.

As per this year’s Top 10 Burgers rankings, Sydney establishment The Gidley is officially home to the world’s ninth-greatest burger — edging out New York City’s Nowon (#10) for the honour; while standing amongst the likes of Copenhagen’s Gasoline Grill (#2) and London’s Salt Shed (#1).

The now internationally renowned Gidley Burger, available at both The Gidley and Surry Hills’ The Rover due to popular demand, unpretentiously sandwiches the following ingredients between a delectable milk bun:

  • Handcrafted double beef patties sourced from Liquid & Larder’s in-house butchery (located at sister venue Alfie’s) & cooked medium rare;
  • Mature cheddar cheese & dill pickles;
  • A tangy secret sauce;
  • Optional (but encouraged): a perfect fried egg & bacon.
