  • 1 Little Green Island, Shoal Point, is a 63-acre private island near Mackay’s Northern Beaches off the Queensland coast and features two dwellings.
  • The island is currently owned by actor and producer Douglas Gresham, who is best known for his role in the production of The Chronicles of Narnia.
  • The property is set to be auctioned on September 16

There aren’t too many tropical private islands that come onto the market, especially ones just half an hour from an airport, but that’s exactly what Little Green Island has to offer. Recently arriving on the market for the first time since 2009, the agent listing describes the island as having been the “creative inspiration behind The Chronicle of Narnia movies.”

1 Little Green Island, Shoal Point, is currently owned by Douglas Gresham, who is known for producing all three of The Chronicle of Narnia movies (based on the books by his stepfather C.S Lewis). It’s understood Gresham purchased the island in June 2009, which was previously owned by Maltese physician Edward de Bono, who developed the idea of “lateral thinking”.

It was de Bono who originally developed the island, working with celebrated architect Tone Wheeler on the construction of the two dwellings that still stand today. Situated on the western side of the island, the main residence features a pool and deck area overlooking the beach below, which can be accessed via a long timber boardwalk.

The structure itself is an interpretation of the classic Queenslander home, complete with sloped roofs nestled into the surrounding trees and an elevated verandah that wraps around the house. Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen and a palatial open-plan living and dining space, as well as three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

There’s also a fully self-sufficient caretaker’s lodge nearby, which could just as easily serve as a private guest cabin. The master bedroom enjoys direct access to the elevated verandah, with an ensuite bathroom and an office that’s accessible from the hallway.

With compelling provenance and a backdrop that might as well be a postcard photograph, 1 Little Green Island, Shoal Point, is a rare freehold opportunity. The auction will take place on the 16th of September and is managed by the team at Harcourts MackTown.
