Adrian Portelli, the Aussie entrepreneur dubbed “Lambo Guy” thanks to a controversial appearance on reality series The Block, has once again made headlines after snapping up a Melbourne penthouse for $39 million.

But what’s captivated widespread attention isn’t the fact that this residence, which crowns the Sapphire by the Gardens twin towers on La Trobe St, has now earned the status of Melbourne’s most expensive apartment; shattering the previous sales record held by a $38 million off-the-plan sale at STH BNK by Beulah (soon to be Australia’s tallest tower).

It’s the fact that Portelli won’t even be spending the majority of his time here.

“I don’t like city living. This will probably be a weekender,” the uni dropout turned LMCT+ director told media outlets.

“It’ll be a good entertainment house on the weekends.”

When prompted about the appeal and supposed “wow factor” of this yet-to-be-completed Melbourne penthouse, Adrian Portelli explained: “It’s the whole presence of the building itself, adjoined with the Shangri-La [luxury hotel]… you’ve got your adjoining restaurant and bar with a lift that goes straight to the restaurant. I was like: ‘Sold!’”

According to Real Estate, Portelli is already working alongside Cox Architecture to customise the $6 million fitout, which will likely include four bedrooms, a cinema, indoor pool, multiple kitchens, and cigar bar to complete what is currently a 1,200-square-metre “blank canvas.”

Portelli also revealed he’ll be craning in an unspecified $3 million supercar to the 57th floor to serve as an art piece (“It’s a car that we can’t register and it’s just collecting dust so I might as well have it somewhere where it’s safe”).

Of the 325 apartments beneath the penthouse in Melbourne’s Sapphire by the Gardens, 95% have already been sold with prices starting from $1.2 million.

Adrian Portelli reportedly has a net worth of $350 million.

UPDATE [10/05/2023]: Adrian Portelli has actually craned his McLaren Senna GTR into the penthouse – read more here.
