It’s been a great year for Frank Lloyd Wright’s disciples, with at least five homes designed by the legendary late architect coming to the market – as well as several other projects inspired by his work including office furniture, lighting, and unrealised concept work. Now, Tirranna House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Connecticut has come up for sale, priced at just US$8 million (AU$12.2 million).
Tirranna House (also known as the John L. Rayward House) derives its name from an indigenous Australian word for “running waters,” which is appropriate given the home’s placement alongside a modest waterfall and a flowing stream. It’s not as famous as Wright’s now-iconic Fallingwater property but is one of his largest residential projects with 7,000 square feet of interior space and situated on a 14-acre block of land.
Originally constructed in 1955, the hemicycle-shaped home features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Across the rest of the property, its new owner will also be able to enjoy the Frank Okamura and Charles Middeleer-designed grounds, as well as the tennis court and pool, greenhouse, barn, plus a one-room guest house.
It most recently changed hands back in 2018 when it was advertised for US$8 million and reportedly was eventually sold for just US$4.8 million. The sale of the Frank Lloyd Wright Tirranna House is being managed by Coldwell Banker Realty.
