Jenner House, one of Potts Point’s remaining marine villas located at 2 Macleay Street, has been re-listed for sale. And assuming everything goes according to plan – which it almost certainly will given the current landscape of Sydney real estate – in the 12 years since it was last purchased, the value of this waterfront mansion will have more than doubled in value.
Domain reports the resplendent Regency Revival-style residence is on track to be offered with a price tag exceeding $34 million, based on the sale of a similar property in Potts Point’s – Bomera marine villa, which was sold to billionaire industrialist Sanjeev Gupta in 2019. For reference, Jenner House was acquired by the Mullens from horse breeder Tony Petersen for $15 million back in 2009 (setting an impressive suburb record). Prior to that transaction, Petersen snapped up 2 Macleay Steet from the Department of Defence for a relative steal of $2.275 million circa 1998.

What Jenner House offers aside from a blue-ribbon address and bragging rights is heritage and tasteful design in spades. With six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and space for five cars, this expansive parcel of 1,970-square metres plays host to what many have described as an “architectural masterpiece of magnificent scale and rare pedigree.” One that has only been fine-tuned for the eyes thanks to a three-year restoration job undertaken sometime between the last time it sold and present day.
Originally designed in 1868 by prominent Australian architect, Edmund Blacket, for the prominent Hordern family, a third level was later added in 1881 by another distinguished architect of the era, Thomas Rowe. Since then, Jenner House has served a variety of purposes, including as the home of King George V before he ascended to the throne as King George V; with an entire run sheet of names along the way… Fleet Club, Stramshall, Jenner Private Hospital, Kurragheen, Lugano. It was added to the NSW State Heritage Register in 1999.
“The property showcases an array of truly extraordinary handcrafted antique materials, including eleven original 1800s fireplace mantles, all crafted in white Carrera marble and imported from a single French Chateau,” reads the listing.
