  • The Apple Watch Series 10 includes an enlarged display, along with new sensors for water depth and temperature.
  • A new WatchOS update will be rolled out starting next week.
  • Apple has also announced a new colour for the Watch Ultra 2.

Earlier today, Apple announced the latest iteration of its wearable range. The Apple Watch Series 10 is set to launch alongside the iPhone 16 and AirPods 4 later this month.

While the Series 10 has the basic features you’d expect out of a smartwatch, like sleep and fitness tracking, Apple has given it a slight makeover — complemented by an updated WatchOS that will roll out just before launch.

Let’s take a look at what the latest version of the Apple Watch has to offer, along with a few other wearable announcements.

The biggest hardware update for the Apple Watch Series 10 comes in the form of its screen. Not only is the always-on display larger, but it’s the first Apple product to have a wide-angle OLED. Compared to Series 9, this latest model offers 9% more screen space and is 40% brighter when viewed from an angle.

The Series 10 is available in two casings, aluminium and titanium. Your choice of case will determine what colours are available: the aluminium comes in jet black, rose gold and silver, while the titanium case can be purchased in slate, gold and natural.

Despite the larger display size, the Series 10 has slimmed down elsewhere. According to Apple, when compared to the Series 9, the Watch Series 10 is nearly 10% thinner and the titanium cases weigh almost 20% lighter than the stainless steel case of the previous generation.

The Watch Series 10 has an all‑day battery life, which lasts up to 18 hours of normal use. If you’re someone who habitually forgets to keep your wearables charged, you can recharge up to 80% in about 30 minutes thanks to fast charging. The Series 10 will also let you play audio from its built-in speakers as well.

Under the hood, the Series 10 runs on the S10 chip, and features new water temperature sensor and a depth gauge – the latter of which can measure up to 6m below the water’s surface. The Series 10 has a 50-metre water resistance rating and an IP6X dust resistance.

Apple will also be rolling out a new WatchOS 11 update on Monday, September 16th, which will be available for Apple Watch Series 6 and later. New features include quick access to overnight health metrics, the ability to measure the impact of your workout, and the option to further customise your Activity Rings.

Also announced during the event is a slick new black casing for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which is made from corrosion-resistant titanium. This new Ultra 2 model is more or less identical to the one that’s currently available, although it benefits from the Series 10’s ability to play audio from built-in speakers.

Apple will also be releasing its first metal band for the Ultra range, which features a Milanese-style construction made from the same aerospace-grade titanium as the case.

The new Watch Ultra 2 case is currently available for preorder, and will also be released on September 20th. The Titanium Milanese Loop is available now for $299.
