  • Focal has unveiled the Diva Utopia: a three-way active wireless loudspeaker.
  • Using the latest in wireless technology, the Diva Utopia can reportedly surpass CD quality to achieve studio-grade sound.
  • The most immediately striking detail aside from its price tag involves its futuristic form.

Focal has a well-earned reputation in the luxury home audio space, with an impressive range of speakers that combine high-fidelity sound and sleek, stylish designs.

The French audio brand has recently announced its first active wireless loudspeaker, developed in conjunction with its equally impressive sister brand Naim Audio. Called the Diva Utopia, these speakers present a three-way design; and resemble set pieces pulled straight out of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Focal is positioning the Diva Utopia as “a speaker with infinite freedom,” focusing on both its lack of wiring constraints and sacrifice of audio quality. The Diva leverages Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology which, according to Focal, allows them to exceed CD quality and achieve studio-grade sound.

The speakers stand 121cm high and feature an inverted dome beryllium tweeter, a mid-bass speaker driver, plus four side-mounted woofers. The tweeter is covered by a subtle red and black double grill set within a brushed aluminium ribbon. The rest of the speaker is covered by floating side panels, which are removable with a felt-like material finish.

While you can connect the speakers directly to an audio source, much like a turntable, the Diva has a pretty robust selection of wireless options to choose from. From Bluetooth to Google Cast and Apple Homekit, to name a few, these bad boys will let you maintain a crystal-clear connection. If you do connect via Bluetooth, however, the Utopia supports aptX Adaptive, SBC and AAC codecs.

As for control, you can use the bundled remote, the Focal & Naim app, or through supported voice assistants, such as Google Assistant and Siri.
