Announced this week, the Garmin Vivomove Trend is the smartwatch company’s newest piece of wearable tech, which not only looks slick but also adds the previously lacking ability to charge wirelessly with Qi compatibility. Finally.

In a world where the pace of smartwatch improvement is only quickening, cable-free charging has been a function conspicuously missing from Garmin watches. However, with the launch of the Vivomove Trend, the Kansas-headquartered company has finally taken its seat at the table with the likes of Apple, Samsung and Fitbit, but there’s a catch – you need to buy your wireless charger separately.

Arriving with all the essential features you’d expect your smartwatch to arrive with such as viewing messages, emails and social notifications, the new device is available in four different colours and designs, which feature analogue hands that tick for a more traditional watch-like feel. This includes fitness and stress tracking, a daily sleep score, Garmin Pay, compatibility with both Apple and Android and an improved battery life of up to 5 days in smartwatch mode.

“Striking a sophisticated balance between both fashion and function, vívomove Trend was created to complement the everyday lifestyle,” said Garmin executive Susan Lyman. “The small, elegant design coupled with popular health, fitness and smart features makes it easy to wear vívomove Trend anywhere – from work to the studio and everywhere in between.”

The Vivomove Trend is an important update for Garmin as they work to keep pace with the competition across the rest of the industry, so if you’ve already got an existing Qi-certified charger lying around at home, this should be one to consider if you’re in the market for a new smartwatch.
