For many of us, one of the lasting legacies of the pandemic years has been the opportunity to spend less time in the office and more time working at home, away from the pressure of a micromanaging boss and the distracting chatter of an open-plan office layout. The boom in the popularity of working from home has presented us with the opportunity to set up our ideal workspace, which is why the debut of the HIBI Design HIBIKI mechanical keyboard could be the perfect addition to your ideal WFH setup.
Now, if you’re wondering why anyone would be interested in a mechanical keyboard when there are cheaper, more readily available options out there, you need to remember that almost all of the best things in life can’t be boiled down into an equation of simple practicality. You don’t buy a watch purely to tell the time, you don’t order the chef’s degustation for its nutritional value and you certainly aren’t spending six figures on a Mercedes if you can get to work on a bike.
The reason the incredibly passionate and relentlessly curious community of mechanical keyboard enthusiasts exists is because of the customizability of these bespoke pieces of tech, as well as the tactile experience of typing on something specifically designed to be a pleasure to use. With the HIBI Design HIBIKI keyboard, that’s exactly what you’re getting, as the canvas on which you can create your perfect everyday office tool, as well as an intricate technical design where keystrokes combine in a sound worthy of any ASMR Instagram account.

The Australian-based HIBI Design team have released the HIBIKI with a 65% layout, meaning it has a little over two-thirds of the keys of a full-sized keyboard, and a thick injection-moulded Polycarbonate base with specially designed feet for stability. Other features include an ergonomic 6-degree typing angle, wilba.tech WT65-H3-HIBI PCB, and an aluminium top, as well as coming with its very own travel case and HIBI screwdriver for assembly.
Offering your choice of four colours in VERY HIBI (purple), SNOW BOY (white), OFFICE BEIGE (off-white) and CHOC (brown), the HIBI Design HIBIKI could be this missing piece of your WHF puzzle. It’s currently available for pre-order until the 12th of November, with an RRP of $365.
