Who uses TV speakers anymore? If you’re serious about your home cinema set-up and keen to build the most immersive cinematic experience possible, then owning a soundbar is pretty much a non-negotiable. An epic TV will only get you so far.
The market for home soundbars has been stacked for quite a while, but by embracing object-based spatial sound technology from JBL’s BAR range, punters can now unlock a true cinema-quality experience in their own home at a wildly achievable price point.
Object-based audio, the bread and butter of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D surround sound, is typically out of reach of the regular consumer’s budget. A soundbar that fits in the required channels to dial in true Dolby Atmos has always been a hefty investment. That is until the arrival of the new JBL BAR range; the latest premium soundbar lineup to nail the advanced audio format from a compelling starting price of $529.95.
Of the range – which soars right up to nearly $2,000 – it’s the JBL Bar 1000 that is undoubtedly the sweet spot. The price? $1,499.95. With 7.1.4 channels (if you want to know more about channels read our guide to the best soundbars in Australia), this bad boy features four up-firing drivers along with two detachable battery-powered rear channels, as well as a massive 10-inch subwoofer.
Having those detachable speakers, which charge when they are docked onto each end of the JBL Bar 1000, is essential in ensuring a completely wireless set-up. There’s no compromise on quality, either. You’ll still be enveloped in a flawless bubble of all-encompassing Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D surround sound, made even stronger with Harman’s unique MultiBeam technology.
With this set-up, the sound field is near perfect when it comes to those nuances in big action sets or whisper-quiet drama films, complete with the height effects these advanced audio formats are known for.
JBL also uses PureVoice Dialogue Enhancement Technology to make sure you won’t need to rely on subtitles to stay up with the script. We flicked on TOP GUN: Maverick once we got the bar in the flesh, and the ability to clearly pinpoint the voices of the masked fighter pilots amongst an onslaught of dogfighting was some of the most impressive audio isolation we’ve ever heard.
The JBL Bar 1000, subwoofer and rear speakers are all able to connect automatically over Bluetooth, instantly syncing upon set-up with a quick calibration process. Seamless connectivity is also taken care of by support for AirPlay, Alexa and Chromecast.
Better yet, in classic JBL fashion, we’re also giving one of these ground-breaking units away. To win a JBL BAR 1000 over on our Instagram, check out the competition below and find the T&C’s here.
