JBL is back with a new pair of flagship earbuds, and it’s hard to miss what makes the Tour Pro 3 cut through the noise. An evolution of the super popular Tour Pro 2, this newest iteration has maintained the distinctive smartwatch-inspired display that’s built directly into the charging case.
This touch screen will give you full control of your earbuds – whether that’s changing tracks, cycling through the various noise-cancelling modes or adjusting your EQ option. It’ll even allow you to accept or reject calls, and display brief message notifications.
That’s not the only trick the Tour Pro 3 has up its sleeve. The Smart Charging Case also includes the ability to transmit audio from a non-wireless source. Just plug the case into the source – either via USB-C or a 3.5mm jack – and this “Everywhere Entertainment” feature will transmit straight to your earbuds.
If you value investing in quality gear like this, you likely spend some time on the move – either for business or pleasure. The ability to now go wireless for in-flight entertainment is an absolute game changer, a common win for all, regardless if you’re seated at the pointy end or down in 76D.
In a fairly crowded market, this is a massive leap in innovation. Connecting to the IFE system or not, being able to control your tunes or podcasts at 36,000 feet, or on your daily commute, and minimise your phone time, is a small but valued luxury afforded by the Tour Pro 3. For this reason alone, the new kit is an interesting proposition from a utility perspective.
Outside of the updated case, the JBL Tour Pro 3 comes bundled with everything you’d want in a pair of earbuds. Its hybrid dual drivers go a long way when providing crisp audio quality, while its companion app includes a robust EQ and support for JBL’s Spatial 360 sound with head-tracking.
JBL has also refreshed its adaptive noise cancellation, which will automatically adjust itself based on the environment you’re in. Knowing that this isn’t a one-size-fits-all feature, you can also adjust the noise-cancellation levels manually, right down to transparency mode. Handy if you want to retain some level of awareness of your surroundings or avoid removing your earbuds altogether. Just another feature that undoubtedly make the Tour Pro 3’s clever buds for a chaotic world.
The Tour Pro 3 come with a pretty solid battery life of eight hours on a single charge (with ANC on), and an additional 24 hours of playtime available with the charging case. If you have noise cancelling off, you can stretch that battery life to 11 hours with another 33 hours in the case.
The JBL Tour Pro 3 wireless earbuds retail for $399 in Australia and are on sale now.
