Just like clockwork, after numerous rumours and leaks, Samsung has finally unveiled its new flagship smartphone series with three models – the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S23+ and Samsung Galaxy S23. Doubling down on sustainable design, packing in new features and leaning heavily on advanced AI, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series sounds like it’ll be another solid entry for Android users who are becoming increasingly demanding when it comes to powerful cameras, reliable battery life – the S22 Ultra battery issues have seemingly been addressed – and faster computing.

The headline features are, of course, exclusively packed into the S23 Ultra, with a stunning 200 megapixel camera and a massive 5,000mAh battery. Combine this with the high-performance Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy (Octa-core) chipset and we should be looking at the most powerful Android phone on the market.

To make it a bit easier for you to digest – these big tech announcements are always packed full of detail – we’ve gone and rounded up everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series, and in particular the high-end S23 Ultra. Below you’ll find the answers to all your questions like when will the Samsung Galaxy S23 be released in Australia? What are the new S23 features? And just how powerful is the S23 Ultra camera?

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Price & Release Date In Australia

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Series will start shipping in Australia on Friday, February 17, 2023. Pre-orders for the S23 Series are now open online and all three models – Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 – will be released at the same time.

The Galaxy S23 series comes in four nature-inspired matte hues. There’s Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender24. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ will also be available in Lime and Graphite, while the S23 Ultra not only adds Lime and Graphite models, but also Red and Sky Blue.

All the colourways are available exclusively online at Samsung’s official website.

Officially, these are the prices for each of the Galaxy S23 phones and their various storage configurations.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ Price

Currently, Amazon Australia is running a pre-order deal where if you pull the trigger on any model in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series then you can get $50 off at checkout by using the code SHARETHEEPIC.

Even better is Amazon’s double storage offer where if you pre-order any of the S23 models – S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra – you’ll get more GB for less. For example, if you pre-order the 128GB S23 Ultra, you’ll actually get the 256GB S23 Ultra at no extra cost.

If you’d like to go hands-on with all three S23 models before you make your purchase, you can do so at any Samsung Experience Store from today. A list of all Samsung stores in Australia can be found here.

Samsung is promising the new S23 models will come with four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. This is a fairly generous commitment to ongoing support, which is probably necessary given how often smartphones are one-upped throughout the year.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Design

Samsung isn’t deviating too far from what works here. The S23 Ultra still looks like a top-end Galaxy smartphone with a 6.8-inch QHD AMOLED screen with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate and smooth curved sides. The entire S series will be the first flagship to use the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 which should offer much better protection.

Sustainability plays a bigger part in the design this time around. The Galaxy S23 models feature 22% pre-consumer recycled content, packaged in a 100% recyclable paper box.

Impressively, Samsung has managed to keep things slim while still managing to fit in a beastly 5,000mAh battery boosted by 45W fast charging, Qi wireless charging up to 15W and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Of course, the efficiency gains granted by the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy (Octa-core) chipset should help immensely as well, making sure there’s no repeat of the S22 Ultra battery issue that plagued last year’s flagship.

Here’s a breakdown of the battery capacity for each of the new Galaxy phones.

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 – 3,900mAh
  • Samsung Galaxy S23+ – 4,700mAh
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – 5,000mAh

Notably, the built-in S pen stylus is also back, indicating Samsung is sticking with the productivity focus that has characterised previous Galaxy releases.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Camera

As always, the S23 Ultra’s primary camera is the biggest drawcard for the new flagship. Samsung has impressively managed to fit in a 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor to better use pixel binning for high-resolution processing. You’ve also got the “Super HDR selfie camera” on the front with smoother video recording at 60fps – more than enough to satisfy content creators.

Boosted by faster autofocus, the ability to edit in RAW and JPEG, and an optical image stabiliser for better low-light performance, it’s looking like the S23 Ultra has already blown past what’s already available on the market. Of course, this is based entirely on the specs and we won’t know about the performance until we go hands-on with the device later this month.

Video recording is unsurprisingly advanced. The rear cameras are capable of recording 8k video at 30fps with a wider angle, leaning heavily on advanced, object-based AI to analyse and lift details.
