  • Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S23 FE. Preorders are now open.
  • The mid-range smartphone represents a hair-raising value proposition, arriving with a flagship-level camera, performance, and AI enhancements.
  • Prices start at $1,099.

Samsung has once again delivered a near-premium device at a mid-range price point, courtesy of the Galaxy S24 FE. And while those initials officially stand for “Fan Edition,” as of now, they may as well be for “Flagship Experience.”

At a glance, the S24 FE appears largely the same as its previous evolution. But the devil’s in the details for this one: 6.7-inch2 Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, beefier 4,700mAh battery, a more robust vapour chamber for better cooling, more powerful Exynos 2400 series chipset, enhanced camera setup, and most importantly: an entire suite of Galaxy AI features.

“We want everyone to enjoy all the benefits of our latest mobile innovations,” explained Seayoung Lee, Head of the Smartphone Research & Development team at Samsung.

“Galaxy AI opens so many new experiences for users, helping them communicate, and be more creative and productive. Galaxy S24 FE makes the powerful performance and premium Galaxy AI capabilities of the S24 series available to even more people.”

Let’s Talk Cameras

Democratising the all-in-one content creator experience, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE sleekly houses a 50MP wide lens and 8MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom — both supported by optical image stabilisation (OIS) — along with a 12MP ultra-wide lens and 10MP selfie camera.

Translation? It’s got all the right hardware to get the job done.

This suite of tech is complemented by Samsung’s AI-driven ProVisual Engine (a first for the FE series). This “vastly improved technology” leverages advanced AI algorithms for breathtaking results.

Key features are as below:

  • Nightography with AI image signal processing (ISP) improves low light performance;
  • 50MP Adaptive Pixel Sensor (wide camera) enables optical-quality performance at
    zoom levels from 2x and optical 3x zoom; AI zoom enhances image quality to
    distances between digital zoom lengths;
  • Object-Aware Engine recognises scenes and optimises colours in Super High Dynamic Range (HDR) for “vibrant and lifelike photos and videos”;
  • Generative Edit reassembles the world through object moving and removal capabilities, opening editing possibilities;
  • Portrait Studio reimagines selfies as cartoons, comics, watercolour paintings, or sketches;
  • Edit Suggestions quickly remove flaws and imperfections, e.g. reflections;
  • Instant Slow-Mo “immortalises every second of life’s important moments”;

It’s All About AI

At this stage, it’s clear what direction the wider tech industry is headed towards. Hence why Samsung has pulled the trigger on incorporating the same AI bells-and-whistles as the flagship Galaxy S24 series into the Galaxy S24 FE.

These are the core tools:

  • Circle to Search with Google “satisfies curiosity with unprecedented ease”;
  • Interpreter translates in-person conversations (offline available);
  • Live Translate breaks down communication barriers on phone calls (select languages);
  • Chat Assist adjusts tone, grammar, and vocabulary in messages;
  • Note Assist streamlines note-taking; automates formatting and translation;
  • Transcript Assist translates audio recordings;
  • Browsing Assist on Samsung Internet summarises or translates webpages;
