Toyota is really betting on its new GR Yaris being a success – so much, in fact, that it’s offered a lucrative $10,000 discount on the 2021 Toyota GR Yaris price for the first 1,000 buyers of its explosive new hot hatch.
Buying into the Gazoo Racing brand was never more achievable, with the 2021 Toyota GR Yaris clocking in at $39,950 drive-away for this first round of buyers. Although you’d assume the price would automatically return to its recommended retail of $49,500 (plus on-roads) thereafter, nothing has been fully determined just yet. According to a representative of Toyota, this offer may be extended; alternatively, the price may be raised by a different amount.
As per CarAdvice, this discount is set to cost the manufacturer roughly $10 million, indicating it’s prepared to make a hefty investment into the success of its performance models.
On top of the GR Yaris, an even more limited version (of just 250 examples, to be exact) dubbed the GR Yaris Rallye is set to follow later this year. It’ll boast limited-slip differentials, upgraded Michelin rubber and BBS alloy wheels. Pricing for this version is yet to be confirmed.
The standard GR Yaris offers the most powerful three-cylinder engine currently in production – a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol putting out 200kW and 370Nm of torque. This juice will be delivered through a six-speed manual transmission to all four wheels and will send the pocket rocket to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds.
To kick off pre-orders with a bang, Toyota has also promised the first 50 buyers 20 cents per litre off fuel for the first year when purchased directly through the myToyota app.
The first cars will come off the ships in November, with orders open from 12 pm (AEST) next Wednesday, September 23. Stay tuned for the finalised RRP.
