The curtains have been pulled back on the new Alpina B8 Gran Coupe, revealing an elegant four-door with a commanding presence backed by some serious performance.
Wisely choosing not to deviate too far from the standard BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, there are, however, a few points of difference: larger front air intakes, adjusted rear diffuser, rear lip spoiler, and Alpina badging. As for its wheels, expect the usual 21-inch, 20-spoke forged alloy wheels with low-profile Pirelli tyres.
Under the hood, you’ll find a retuned version of BMW’s stonking M850i’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of generating 457kW and 800Nm of torque to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, accompanied by a rear-wheel steering system which offers improved manoeuvrability.

For reference, that’s 66kW more than the M850i and a few less the M8. Despite being a moderately beefy proposition weighing in at approximately 2.2 tonnes, Alpina claims the B8 Gran Coupe can accomplish the 0-100 dash in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 324 km/h.
The interior has also undergone a sophisticated upgrade. Rich with Merino leather crafted by Alpina’s very own workshop, luxury seating takes a whole new meaning here. Other standout features include a polished 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console providing navigation and driver assistance system, as well as a Harman Kardon surround sound system.
Colourway options include the full range of BMW-designed exterior shades in addition to exclusive paint hues such as the tantalising Alpina Green and Alpina Blue.
The Alpina B8 Gran Coupe will have a starting price of US$140,895 (AU$190,000) when it arrives in US showrooms later this year – local pricing has yet to be confirmed.
