Made for those that enjoy a day of deep-water fishing, the team at Formula Boats have announced the all-new 387 CCF fishing boat as the boatbuilder’s first centre-console vessel since the 1980s. As a manufacturer with one of the richest histories in American boatbuilding, the Formula Boats 387 CCF also features a double-stepped hull that is quintessential to the firm that was responsible for some of the first go-fast boats in the world.

Formula Boats was founded back in the early 1960s by the legendary Don Aronow, who not only pioneered offshore boat racing but was also instrumental in the design and development of the now-famous Magnum Marine, Cigarette and Donzi speedboats. Aronow ultimately had his life cut short in a 1987 shooting that inspired the 2018 film Speed Kills (starring John Travolta), but his legacy was set in stone with even the likes of former President Lyndon B. Johnson being known to own several Donzi speedboats that he would race his Secret Service agents in.

With such an established legacy of speed-focused vessels, Formula Boats has returned to this history with the new 387 CCF that aims to perfect the versatile cruiser by blending agility with enough power to get on the move quickly. In saying that, its function-forward design hasn’t forgotten about keeping things comfortable, boasting an interior with ample relaxing seating, a cabin that can sleep two with 6’4″ of headroom, a 33-inch television and even a yacht-style shower.

It arrives standard with twin 18-foot outriggers and a pair of 90-gallon fish boxes to keep your catch fresh, as well as 12 rod holders that can be upgraded to 32 if you’ve looking to make full use of your 387 CCF. Powering the performance version of the new Formula Boats vessel are a trio of Mercury Racing 450 outboard engines that top out at a seriously swift 98km/h, though you can opt for the standard engine set-up of three 300 hp Mercury Verados.

There isn’t too much else you could ask for in a functional fishing boat that doesn’t skimp on the creature comforts, which makes the Formula Boats 387 CCF an extremely compelling package. With the performance engine set-up, expect to shell out $1,452,820 (AU$2,086,066) for the pleasure of owning one, with Formula Boats sold via Chapman Marine Group in Sydney.
